Anxiety Masquerade is a study of aesthetic of anxiety. I would like to focus on what the aesthetics are through the garments that discuss and pacify the anxiety excessive technology use. The sculptural elements that I am designing draw from various breathing techniques used in coping with anxiety. I have designed this series of aesthetic study that I look at embodying anxiety as placebo effects. I used masks and tubes to make collage of iconographic of anxiety as objects.
An additional idea was the meaning of excessive technology use is that about technology addiction. Technology addiction has become distraction addiction. Like most addiction, the relentless pull to the point of compulsion, it creates a “compulsive loop”. Like lab rats or drug addicts, we need more to achieve the same effect. Heavy breathing represents a symptom of this excessive technology use. It is a physiological expression of the anxiety resulting from an unmet need. The fear and discomfort that come with the struggle to breath urge us to feed our addiction.
Materials: Masks, Polyurethane Tube, Oxygen Tank, Zipper, and Fabric
Anxiety Masquerade is a part of armor which is a protective covering object for protecting from anxiety and panic attack. Not only mask but tubes are also around the body that is preventing from the fear. People might think that the appearance of anxiety masquerade looks some kind of fetish or fear. I wanted to show how anxiety is look like and how anxiety feels like as an appearance on purposed.
Especially zipping mechanism with light linen which represent a fear but actually having a space inside of the hood. and tubing systems that shows a circulation of breathing from heavy breathing.
The images on the wall is that looking at how emphasis this mask and show how to place them around the body and show what anxiety is look like on the body. My goal is to design anxiety as an object.
Prototypes are the part of design process that I was observing how to breathe out of anxiety disorder or panic. About 7 prototypes were showing different kinds of the practice breathing techniques.
